The terrace of La Cocina de San Antón. The heart of Chueca

Happy Friday rooftop lover!

This week I’m going to show you another of the few terraces that are located in Madrid markets, very similar to the Forus Barceló rooftop that I showed you in another post.

his time we’ll go to the heart of Chueca neighborhood, one with the most diversity in Madrid.

The San Antón market is at Calle Augusto Figueroa 24.

EL MERCADO DE SAN ANTON 3

The journey begins! ?

1. The market of San Anton

In the 19th century, the San Antón market was an open-air market named for being next to the parish of the same name.

During the Spanish Civil War, in the middle of the defense of Madrid by the government of the Second Republic, this market continues to operate at full capacity despite the bombs of the national side.

The first building in the San Antón market was built in 1945 under the project of the architect Carlos de la Torre y Costa. ?

The evolution of the neighborhood makes that the use of this market declined in the eighties and nineties, due to changes in customs among consumers in the neighborhood.

Between 2007 and 2011, the old building was demolished and the current one was built following the mixed model with spaces for food stalls and restaurants.

2. La Cocina de San Antón rooftop

On the third floor of the Market you’ll find La Cocina de San Antón Rooftop.

If you haven’t been there yet, you will be amazed. ?

To access from the second floor you have to access the stairs, located on one of the sides of the market. You go up a couple of flights of stairs and you’re in El Cielo de San Antón.

The Kitchen of San Antón has four environments:

The chill in area: It’s an interior area, just before entering the restaurant, where you can have a snack with a delicious cocktail in hand, sheltered from the cold and rain.

Above all of the spaces on  La Cocina de San Antón, the terrace in the one that deserves a special mention. ?

TERRAZA COCINA DE SAN ANTON 9

This is one of those terraces where you feel like going afterwork with your coworkers, spending the afternoon with friends, or having a vermouth on Sunday with your couple.

It doesn’t have great views, but Chueca has that charm that makes this terrace special, especially during the Pride week. ?

It has a high table area with stools right next to the views, so you don’t miss anything.

This terrace also has low sofas with very comfortable cushions in which you can sit idle, and low tables to support your glass and tapas.

You will be very comfortable if you can get one when you arrive. The views towards the interior of the market are just as interesting as those overlooking the street.

I really like the decoration of this terrace, in the photos I show it to you and I hope you agree with me.

My favorite element of decoration this terrace is the pig totem that they have at the entrance, it gives to this terrace a very personal touch. ?
