HEADER PUERTALSOL TERRACE

Puertalsol Terrace by Chicote . The rooftop in the center of Madrid

Welcome again, rooftop lover! Today I’m going to show you a rooftop with the most breathtaking views. ?

It doesn’t have to be New Year’s Eve to see the Puerta del Sol at your feet, every day of the year (almost) you´ll be able to enjoy these emblematic views from this terrace. ?

Let’s start! ?

1. Once upon a time…

Puertalsol Tavern was opened during the summer of 2016 by two Spanish master chefs, Alberto Chicote (famous television chef as UK TV chef star Gordon Ramsay) and his partner in this adventure, Pedro Olmedo (not so famous but with many years of experience in high kitchen behind him). ?‍?

For this gastronomic place, the spanish department store chain El Corte Inglés has given them the fifth floor of one of its buildings, Puerta del Sol 10, that is dedicated entirely to sport goods.

On this tavern you can travel to the beginning of the 20th century to taste traditional Madrid food, tapas, portions and stews, as well as a varied wine list. ?

It has very spacious interior rooms and can be reserved for events. INTERIOR PUERTALSOL 2

2. Puertalsol Terrace

Once upstairs, you have to wait for the maitre to allow you to enter the terrace.

If you go early in the morning (they open at 12:30) you can choose a place without problem, but if you’re going to have lunch or dinner it’s better to reserve, because this terrace is always crowded.

And rightly so! ?

The panoramic view that can be enjoyed from here is iconic because it is from this square that the New Year’s Eve chimes in Spain are broadcast on television from here every year. ?

I think these photos can describe the views better than me. In my opinion the jewel of Madrid is its center, the Puerta del Sol. These views prove it! ?

In Puertalsol Terrace you can find two different areas:
TERRAZA PUERTALSOL 2
The first row:

With stools and high tables. If you can get one in the outermost area you will be privileged, because it has the best views.
TERRAZA PUERTALSOL 9
The side:

This is the area reserved for lunch and dinner. It faces to one of Madrid’s most commercial streets Calle Preciados and from here you can see up close the iconic neon sign of the well-known Tío Pepe wine brand. ?

At the bottom of this side there is a chill-out area with some red sofas where you can chat with friends enjoying a drink. ?

The Puertalsol Terrace is open in winter and apart from having stoves to heat the place, it also has its sides covered with transparent tarps to protect its visitors from the air and rain to continue enjoying the views. ☔

TERRAZA PUERTALSOL 5

As the Puertalsol Terrace is a Madrid tavern, the food menu is mainly made up of local cuisine. As shown by this spectacular rice pudding that is among its desserts. ?

To see what’s in its menu, I recommend to  visit its website were you can also see the prices. ?

TERRAZA PUERTALSOL 6

As I said before, for lunch or dinner you have to book through their website because in the Puertalsol Terrace there are always lots of people, both Spanish and foreign. If you prefer to book by phone you can do it calling at 914873685

3. The opening hours

❄ Winter hours: Sunday to Thursday from 12:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Fridays, Saturdays and holidays from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 a.m.

? Summer Hours: Every day from 12:30 p.m. to 01:30 a.m.

I recommend to go early to take the vermouth, because at that time there is hardly anyone and you can ensure one of the places with the best views. ?
